James 4:11-17 (KJV)
11 Speak not evil one of another, brethren. He that speaketh evil of his brother, and judgeth his brother, speaketh evil of the law, and judgeth the law: but if thou judge the law, thou art not a doer of the law, but a judge.
12 There is one lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy: who art thou that judgest another?
13 Go to now, ye that say, To day or to morrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain:
14 Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.
15 For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that.
16 But now ye rejoice in your boastings: all such rejoicing is evil.
17 Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.
I feel we are living in a great time for the kingdom of God. I believe this is the greatest generation in which to live. We have more at our disposal. We have more abilities to reach the lost. We have more talent, money, people, and resources. My fear is that we have lost our purpose. We have allowed society to dictate political correctness and it has slipped into the church. We are more concerned about offending and losing instead of reproving and rebuking. In many cases, church has become a social club in that our efforts are for the ones inside the walls instead of the people outside the walls. Lord help the Westside United Pentecostal Church to realize there is a world that is lost and on its way to hell. We must lead them to our Savior, Jesus Christ.
Luke 19:10 (KJV) 10 For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.
As representatives and ambassadors for Christ, the church has a rigorous responsibility. Our purpose is simple and focused. We must impact Tullahoma, Tennessee with the gospel of Jesus Christ. It is our responsibility to obey the words of our Lord.
Luke 14:23 (KJV) 23 And the lord said unto the servant, Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled.
Our Purpose is the great commission.
Matthew 28:16-20 (KJV)
18 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.
19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
Through the gift of the Holy Ghost we have been given power to fulfill our purpose.
Acts 1:8 (KJV) 8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.
A 320-year-old Stradivarius cello had been missing for three weeks was returned to the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra after it avoided becoming the world’s most expensive CD rack.
The primary cellist for the Philharmonic accidentally left the instrument outside his home in April. Nearby video surveillance cameras revealed that a bicyclist had stolen it. 29 year-old nurse, Melanie Stevens, found the $3.5 million dollar instrument made by master craftsman Antonio Stradivari lying beside a trash bin about a mile from where it was stolen.
Stevens found the instrument inside its silver coated plastic case and put it in her car’s trunk for two days. Then she asked her boyfriend, who is a cabinetmaker, to either repair the instrument or convert it into a unique CD holder. Stevens did not know the significance of the instrument until she saw a news report about it. She said, “I had no idea what I had. It would be a very elaborate CD case. I know it sounds crazy. I had no idea.”
The cello made in 1684 was one of about 60 made by Stradivari in his Cremona, Italy works. The Los Angeles Philharmonic bought it about 30 years ago. Robert Cauer, a Los Angeles-based instrument restoration specialist says the valuable instrument is damaged but repairable and should be back in service by this fall. Cauer added the prospect that the prized instrument could have been turned into a CD holder “is so abominable, I get sick when I hear it.”
The church is often guilty of being like Melanie Stephens in the above story. We possess something with significant value but have no idea what we have. If you have the Holy Ghost, you have power from God. This power is to fulfill our purpose which is to witness to this lost world. In our witnessing, our goal is to see the house of God filled and souls respond to the gospel message of repentance, water baptism in Jesus name and receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost.
Let’s fulfill our purpose in 2011 and impact at least one soul in giving their life to Jesus Christ.
