Our beginnings

Our beginnings

On many Fridays we post pictures and video of the new construction that will be the home of New Life. But how did it begin? For Westside it began in April of 1974. When Pastor Philip Swinford first rented a wash-a-teria to hold services.

The men of the church did extensive remodeling, making a platform and adding restrooms and Sunday School classrooms. Their first service was held April 7, 1974 with an attendance of 26.

As the church grew the original church (which is now the fellowship hall) became to small and in the early 1980s a new sanctuary was built. This is the same sanctuary that we are in today. The work was done by members and our friends from other churches… often the men would work all day at their normal jobs and then spend the evenings and weekends working on the church.

As we move our church family into a new building one that God has so blessed us with… lets remember the foundation that was laid in our history and the people who have gone on to their reward and the sacrifice they made that the gospel would continue.

Now it’s our turn to continue growing the church and being a blessing to our community.
